DUTIES

• Work directly with clients to define project requirements and develop technical solutions.

• Lead a project design team to provide solutions for clients.

• Lead pre-construction engineering activities including coordination of services and production of information (tender drawings, specifications and equipment details).

• Lead management of projects during construction including site inspections, technical submittals and RFI’s.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Strong technical ability and good understanding of current engineering standards (Building Regulations, CIBSE Codes, IS/EN Standards).

• 7+ years experience in the design and specification of mechanical / building services systems (drainage, water services, heating, cooling, ventilation and BMS).

• Experience of client , vendor and contractor interaction.

• Good communication skills and ability to lead an engineering team.

• Third level degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.

• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and IES (not essential).

• Excellent level of attention to detail and accuracy.

• Chartered Engineer or approaching same.

This is a senior leadership role for an experienced building physics and energy professional who is passionate about delivering sustainable, high-performing buildings and leading high-performing teams.

The Role

 

As Senior Energy Engineer, you will provide technical and strategic leadership across a diverse portfolio of projects, managing and mentoring a team of engineers and team leads. You will play a key client-facing role, building strong relationships with clients, presenting technical solutions, and guiding projects from concept through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and manage a team of energy engineers and team leads, fostering collaboration, development and technical excellence.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, confidently presenting technical findings and sustainable design solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership on building physics, energy modelling and sustainability projects.
  • Undertake and oversee daylight, sunlight and overshadowing analyses.
  • Conduct and review wind and microclimate assessments.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate energy and building systems, communicating findings to clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Carry out Part L and BER performance assessments and cross-checks for preliminary designs and planning applications.
  • Lead projects from detailed design through to practical completion.
  • Mentor and support junior and graduate engineers, contributing to their professional development.
  • Prepare and review high-quality technical reports and project documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building regulations and industry standards.
  • Develop and present sustainability strategies for clients, providing clear, practical recommendations to achieve low-carbon, high-performance building outcomes.

 

 

Skills and Experience

 

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Sustainability, Building Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ technical experience in building physics, energy modelling and sustainable building design.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management capacity.
  • Demonstrable experience leading and managing engineering teams, including the management of senior team members and team leads.
  • Strong client relationship management skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and confidently to clients and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, report-writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish Building Regulations, particularly Part L and BER requirements.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and standards would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in IESVE and One Click LCA software is essential.
  • Experience in delivering sustainability and low-carbon building solutions.
  • Professional accreditation such as BREEAM Assessor/AP, LEED Green Associate/AP, or similar sustainability certifications would be highly desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer status or progression towards chartership would be advantageous.
  • Proactive, commercially minded and solutions-focused, with a positive, can-do attitude.

Principal Civil Engineer / Associate Civil Engineer – Drainage

We are seeking a Principal Civil Engineer / Associate Civil Engineer (The job title will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience and seniority) who specialises in the design of sustainable drainage systems, wastewater networks, water distribution systems, hydrological studies and flood risk management.

This is a senior client-facing role responsible for leading project delivery, managing key stakeholder relationships, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams across engineering, modelling and drafting functions. Working closely with teams across multiple offices, you will ensure projects are delivered to the highest technical standards, on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities include leading the design and delivery of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), Flood Risk Assessments, surface water and wastewater networks, hydrological and hydraulic studies, and flood alleviation schemes. The successful candidate will also contribute to business development, resource planning, and the continued growth of the civil engineering business.

 

The successful candidate will have the option to work from offices in London or Birmingham (Hybrid working model) 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • A minimum of 10+ years relevant experience in a senior role in a design environment.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering drainage design for residential, mixed-use and commercial development projects, including housing developments, from planning through to detailed design.
  • Experience designing drainage systems knowledge of the UK Codes of Practice, CIRIA C753 
  • Experience assessing Flood Risk in accordance with The Planning System 
  • Be proficient in the use of Causeway Flow , Micro Drainage, AutoDesk, Civil 3D or equivalent.
  • The ability to communicate design intent and philosophy to team members and non-technical interested parties.
  • Experience leading projects from inception through the design process.
  • Have a track record of successful client facing roles.
  • Strong working experience in the UK
