Mechanical (SMPP) Resident Engineer – Mineral Processing Plant

Salary: R50 000 – R60 000 per month
Contract Type: 12-Month Contract (with possibility of extension)
Location: Site-Based / Remote Site within South Africa

Our client within the mining and mineral processing sector is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical (SMPP) Resident Engineer to join their project team on a fixed-term contract basis.

Please note: This role will be based on the processing plant and associated infrastructure, and not underground or directly within the gold mining operations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • NDip, BTech, BEng, or BSc in Mechanical or Mining Engineering
  • 3–7 years’ relevant SMPP engineering experience
  • Previous site-based project experience is essential
  • Experience working on mineral processing plants, process plants, or heavy industrial projects advantageous
  • Willingness to be site-based and work remotely within South Africa

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support SMPP construction and installation activities on-site
  • Monitor project quality standards and ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures
  • Conduct payment verifications and manage site-related documentation and procedures
  • Liaise with contractors, project teams, and stakeholders to ensure project delivery targets are achieved
  • Ensure adherence to safety, engineering, and operational standards within the plant environment
  • Assist with project reporting, inspections, and progress monitoring

Key Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of SMPP construction projects and plant environments
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and site compliance processes
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced site environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Autodesk software packages will be advantageous
