The Opportunity

Our client, a multi-disciplinary consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join its growing structural engineering team.

We are looking for a technically strong and confident engineer who can take ownership of projects from initial sketches and structural concepts through analysis, detailed design, technical reporting and client presentations.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on complex projects and engaging directly with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.

Irish experience is advantageous but not essential. My client is open to candidates based elsewhere in Europe and are happy to consider fully remote working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the structural engineering design and delivery of projects from concept through to completion.
• Produce structural sketches, calculations, analysis, detailed designs and technical reports.
• Analyse and design structures in steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber.
• Apply relevant Eurocodes, Building Regulations, Codes of Practice and Technical Standards.
• Support and contribute to complex projects, including large-scale and technically demanding developments.
• Review structural solutions and provide sound, practical engineering recommendations.
• Coordinate structural requirements with clients, architects, engineers, contractors and other project stakeholders.
• Attend and contribute to client and project meetings.
• Present technical information and design solutions clearly and confidently.
• Manage structural design deliverables, programme and quality.
• Provide technical guidance and support to more junior members of the team.
• Manage client expectations and maintain strong professional relationships.
• Demonstrate sound engineering judgement when dealing with design challenges and contractor queries.
• Keep up to date with developments in structural engineering, regulations, standards and design practices.

Essential Skills & Experience

• A recognised degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 8+ years structural design experience within the construction/consulting engineering sector.
• Strong analytical and technical capability with the confidence to take ownership of engineering decisions.
• Proven experience designing structures in steel, concrete, masonry and timber.
• Experience working to Eurocodes and relevant European standards/regulations.
• Proficiency in relevant structural engineering design software such as SCIA, RFEM, or Tekla or equivalent. The use of Revit as part of a workflow would be an advantage.
• Ability to produce and interpret structural sketches and drawings.
• Strong technical report-writing and documentation skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to confidently present and defend technical solutions to clients and contractors.
• Good planning, organisation and project management skills.
• A practical, solutions-focused “can-do” attitude.
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for project delivery.

Desirable

• Experience working on data centre or other large-scale / complex projects.
• Previous experience working with major contractors.
• Irish or UK construction experience.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects.
• Basic understanding of civil engineering design.
